Gian-Battista Lombardo developed a new kind of iconography at the edge of history and contemporary. Memorial and humanist, his works play on a new form of sacredness, a contemplation, questioning the irony of life and death… and creating a bridge between men and cultures.
Painting regularly enters into an intimate dialogue with photography as raw traces of existence… an ephemeral and fragile moment that becomes permanent… an inscription of time into wood or concrete. Objects and sculptures also appear as reliques or fragments… a new form of human liturgy and permanence… something spiritual.
Sensitized, very young, to the question of the disasters of war, freedom and philosophy of being, Gian-Battista already offers a very mature artistic approach… marked both by criticism and faith in mankind… a peaceful rage. It’s a message of awareness and commitment… individual and collective actions… answering the absurd. It could be summarized as written by A. Camus « The absurd depends as much on man as on the world. It is for the moment their only link. It seals them together as only hatred can rivet beings. »
